Tracking Profits; Wheel Alignment Review – MOTT47 - Nov 05

Tracking profits

Chamfered tyres and replacement of suspension and steering joints are circumstances in which we use wheel alignment equipment in our MOT workshops. Is the latest computerised equipment a worthwhile investment? What equipment is out there and how much does it cost?

To assist readers in evaluating this equipment we’ve obtained key information on some of the products available to MOT Testing garages who need to re-align, or check the wheel alignment on their customers’ cars. With such equipment this can be carried out easily, quickly and profitably…

Asymmetric tyre wear

A sure clue to poor tracking as we all know, is when a vehicle’s tyres are so worn on one side that the tyre wall is wearing to a chamfer. This can often be easily seen even though the tyres themselves have not yet worn below the legal limit.

It is in circumstances such as this that opportunities arise to improve profits with the purchase of sophisticated wheel alignment equipment. And these opportunities arise more often than not within our MOT Testing Stations. It is surprising how many VTSs do not have modern equipment to properly remedy misaligned wheels.

Yet it is so simple. By making an MOT advisory note to the effect that the tyres, whilst not illegal are wearing in a way which suggests that the vehicle’s tracking is in need of adjustment, at very little cost the motorist can be re-assured.

From the motorists’ viewpoint this beneficial piece of advice not only alerts him to a possible road safety issue – but also saves him money by ensuring that in future there will be a significant reduction in tyre wear – a significant saving off his motoring costs. What a good way of increasing your profits!

Full 4-wheel alignment

A further benefit of modern vehicle tracking equipment is that with laser beam and the use of electronic technology the equipment currently on offer can check the correct alignment of all four wheels – and that impresses your motorists customers.

For all they know the vehicle may have been seriously damaged at some time in its history resulting in un-diagnosed chassis distortion – a problem that the full four wheel alignment equipment can readily detect.

A Profit opportunity

There is no doubt that modern motorists are impressed by hi-tech equipment, and even more impressed by such equipment that can be demonstrated to save them money.

So what is on offer? Well, here we provide readers with a sample of what can currently be purchased for use in their MOT workshops.

And there’s no doubt about it, this equipment isn’t just a ‘spend’, it is a real investment. So have a look at what’s currently on offer and you too could soon be ‘tracking’ for increased profits.
