David, Sounds like he had a lucky escape, what did your ex-boss do to his pitot? maybe someone blew down it?
"They "used to say the most you should do to check the ASI is to put your finger over the end of the pitot. Even thats not recommended now.
However the stall speed is very low on the CT at 35 knots and even then its benign.
Very good point though, as once your up its V tricky to check air speed even with GPS, as that only gives ground speed of course.

My Ex Boss had a similar plane to yours, nice view can teel the planet is round when you look at it. My ex Boss did something wrong with his Pitot Static Tube (Air Speed) and had an accident, my work mate crapped himself and thought it was all over, I said it sounds like it nearly was, any chance you might like to go for another fly then, he said not likely?

OK, I fell for it!
But I like the light aircraft - our esteemed editor and I used to run a flying club at Wycombe Air Park - he now flies a Europa and I had children.
Is it a kit plane?

Yes, although the sand is quite hard and compact on this beach. There are old breakwaters sticking out of the sand too, so best to make a low pass first to look for debris etc and to alert other users. There were soft patches that day and the nose gear was bumping a bit. Turned the 'plane round to point the sea for take off. Brakes on, Full power, 10 degrees of flap and she took off in about 50 metres maybe less.
Then back to Barton(Manchester), Via Reebock stadium. Took 15 mins. Cruise speed is 118 Knots About 136 MPH. Max permissible speed is150 kts about 172 MPH.
Uses about 4 gallons of fuel per hour.
