Nice one Dave!
Cheers for that, but please refer to my first post. The bit that says they don't know a lot. As all queries regarding jobs and training etc are routed through capita
Thanks, I think we all know VOSA don't know a lot by what is said on this forum, too many chiefs and not enough indians?

once again cheers for that, call me thick but whats a DP (you get some dodgy sites, typing that into google), thats cleared up a few more points.
So basically a VI is middle of the road, do they tend to spend more time out at DP's or at the station? what exactly do they do or are qualified to do?
The reason i'm asking all this is my son has just recently left college and been offered a placement with VOSA on a training scheme, so we are looking through all the career
paths available to him. So i hope you don't mind all the questions.

VI = Vehicle inspector (used to be called assistant Vehicle Examiners) They work in the station, and out at DPs on the testing side of life.

What is the difference between VI & VE?
VI was the organisation called Vehicle Inspectorate, now merged with the Traffic Area Network, known as the Vehicle Operator Services Agency, VOSA for short.
Previously I think you asked the difference between a Tester, an Inspector and a Vehicle Examiner;
A tester is a person who inspects vehicle for road worthiness, an Inspector is similar classed as a level 3 Inspector of vehicles, carries out some road side checks, HGV testing etc.
A Vehicle Examiner is a level 4, the examiner carries out road side checks, monitors mot stations, carries out HGV inspections, supervising tachograph operations etc.

Thanks for that nickknack, cleared up a few points.
So do they all cover cars too?
Also what do you need to progress from VI to VE?
What sort of work does a VI do, ie: stuck in station or do they get to go out and about?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Tester just tests trucks, VI does trucks and buses, thats up a grade, and the Ve is up another grade, either in testing, where they do everything within the station, or on enforcement, where they are predominatley out and about.

Hello, could someone please explain the difference between a Vosa, Vehicle Tester, Vehicle Inspector and Vehicle Examiner. As the vosa website is useless and the customer service dept, don't really know.
