Seem to remember seeing something about 01 on  plus replacement plates, but how do we know if it is a replacemnt? Will look that one up tomorrow!

And what about the flak when customer who has just bought a personal plate from DVLA (see current TV adverts) and we say `Sorry, I can`t pass that ( for example )MR 51NGH` Yes I know DVLA have small print about correct spacing, but as intelligent people they must realise what they are turning a blind eye to. Would we as Testers get away with `turning a blind eye`? Somehow I suspect its penalty points for front plate and the same for the rear. It`s bad enough when you find personal plates in the boot of the car, somehow you get the feeling of being conned or treated as an idiot by the customer!

May be it would be a good idea if all regulatory authorities used the same set of rules.

Any way there are brighter sides to the job,

"YOU ONLY NEED TO GIVE IT A QUICK LOOK OVER THIS YEAR BECAUSE IT`S ONLY DONE 500 MILES SINCE LAST YEAR` AND IT PASSED THEN"

i keep all old/superseded pages for reference+to show customers when, for instance, they want to know why their no plates didnt fail last year but are now illegal......do you think that the congestion charge etc may be about to become more widespread?cant think of too many other reasons for the latest garbage we bin asked to enforce-cud b worth storing up some pre 01 cars.if the regs dont apply to em values must surely b about 2 rise.

Beware of your next VOSA visit CASTROLROB.

I had all our old manuals stored out of the way on a shelf in MOT office ( new computerised ones stored next to Device for reference if required, although find it easier to use F5 on device)  and received `advice` to remove all old Manuals to prevent incorrect rfr being applied. Understandable I suppose, but the `offence` was logged in writing in the V.I.`s Station Report. Probably went against us for Best Practice assessment

i think the reason is that a few of our less gifted brethren keep putting wrong fuel type etc on the tickets, while it dont matter a s**te some anally retentive owners get the hump with a say,1970 vehicle being entered as a 71(yes ive had this discussion!)and as the only people permitted to alter them are vosa this reduces their workload.strange when u think that up till these days we cud always alter them ourselves....

kept our old a4 manual+insert pages as required.dont try to print off the whole lot tho, took about a fortnight!some pages of the manual contain too much info for the retarded transistors that we were supplied (under the guise of a computer) to cope with and wont print at all.ministry guy wanted to know where the missing pages were.i invited him to print them-he had no better luck.

have u seen the no plate rqmnts?testers are about to become as popular as a dose of clap at a wife swopping party!got told a few years back about no plates being fitted with sim cards etc from about 2009 onwards.dont know if these are the same proposals after the normal commitee process but they are a complete waste of time.matters of testing(the vosa b......t rag)mentioned that they were concerned about the number of non compliant motors with current mots.its really simple dimwits,we fail em and the assholes concerned refit them once they get their ticket, sometimes b4 they even leave the premises-im not aware of a law that prevents us from letting a vehicle owner take a screwdriver to his own vehicle!the best prevention is to pull them over and nick them.this however requires the allocation of resources/forward thinking and a few other things that are lacking.unless of course by some miracle sum1 has thought it thru and altered penalties etc.sumfin like the roadtax vans cud b usefull-summons thru the post etc.oh i 4got,they cant read em!

Logged in this morning to find a message on the system stating that the latest update had been released, and that on the vt20's that are printed it will no longer state the date of 1st use and what fuel the vehicle is...just a line of xxxx through the sections....and that the vts's phone number will be printed....
Also the authentication number is no longer there..just a few lines of text stating how soon b4 the test expires you can tkae the car in for its next mot...

Cant understand why they have done the above...the certs dont look the same with the xxxx on there....
