Weetabix is correct you force it through and creare a new record, the correct one. We are clensing the DVLA data base. What that does is a letter gets sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle informing them of a mismatch, its then checked out by the DVLA and the logbook amended if thats whats wrong, 90% of the time it is.
Its been wrong for years but the tool to cross reference it has only just arrived.

very rare i have to turn something away......not really sure what the threads about to be honest???.
I started this thread because I wanted to know why we should accept the DVLA's version of the VIN when we can see that the VIN on the vehicle is different.
eg WOLOOO89GV1234567 on vehicle, but W01000BGVL1234S67 in mot test record.
The VTS device prompts us to ignore such errors & use their version !
If I find a wrong VIN, I create a new test record...

have taken to typing full 17 digit vin on every test, only since dvla supplied vin on 1 vehicle i tested only had 15 digits(not their fault of course)most incorrect vins are down to dvla so i feel the least i can do is to keep them as busy as possible with contacting owners!i am a mechanic not a clerk so if i have to correct their deficiencies then i will make damn sure they have to work at it.

A VIN in the DVLA / VOSA database is wrong. It doesn't match what is on the vehicle.
Why must we accept the errors ?
Surely we should type in the VIN exactly as it is on the vehicle ?
