Thanks for that. I meant the main brakes not the parking brake. I have replaced all the springs and checked everything is in order. I will see if it passes this time

Hi, strange question,

They don`t have to lock, But the  service brake readings, rear combined with the front wheel brake readings have to Exceed 50% of the specified weight of the vehicle.

The Parking brake readings on a Dual Circuit braking system, Have to Exceed 16%, of the specified weight unless Both rear wheels Lock. lol.

You don`t specify Service Brake or Parking Brake,

Adjustment should be auto, but sometimes You need to encourage the sprung loaded wedge system to work.

Hope this helps,

Regards, Wes.

My mk 3 golf failed its MOT because the rear wheels turned when the brake is pressed. should the rear wheels lock? How do I adjust the rear brake? They have shoes on the back
