| I understand, I just wanted to be able to add on my one month however early I took it in. But you've answered my original query as to whether the testing station was acting correctly thanks.

it's the way the rules are , it wouldn't really be much use if people could take their car in for test 2 or 3 months early & have all of that added on , so the idea of 13 months is how it works & there has to be a cut off point somewhere.
if you only got a year regardless of when it went in then everyone would take their car on it's due date & if it failed they would be stuck , so i would think that this is why you get to add on upto a month , that way people can be prepared & get it in a bit early & still have the same expiry date.

| Thanks for the quick reply. Do you understand why there is this anomaly - I'm away in early Dec so I can't take the car in then.

My test is due on 1st January 2008, but I find it inconvenient to get it done over the Christmas period. I assumed that if I took the car in two months ahead I would get the one month period added to the test date, so that retesting on 12th Nov 2007 would have a certificate that ran until 11th Dec 2008. The testing station tell me that they can only issue a certificate that runs beyond the anniversary of the test date if the retest is within one month of the expiry date. So testing on 1st Dec 2007 the certificate would run only to 30th Nov 2008, whilst testing one day later, on 2nd Dec 2007, it would run to 1st Jan 2009.
I think it's evident that this is an anomaly, but is it correct interpretation of the regulations?
