Thanks guys,

Like you have mentioned, I know I was probably a fool for not taking it to a local garage, but I suppose that if I don't need to make any changes to the repairs that have been made over the coming years then I have saved myself money in the long run.

In the current climate still not happy about about spending a bloody fortune on MoT repairs!!!!

Anyways, nothing I can do about it now is there?

Cheers for your help!

Hi Stotto,

As you May or May Not Apppreciate, "The Cost of Living" Has Increased!  And So Have the costs incurred in running a Succesful Buisness, In Whatever Your Profession?

My Household Hot Water Tank, Complete with Electric Immersion Heater and Gas Central Heating Coil has sprung a leak!

How Much For "Latest Spec" Replacement? Yeah a bloody fortune! Thinking of Doing "The Job" Myself and Re-Training as a Plumber?!;)

The "Average" Cost of an MOT, Has Indeed Increased Over a period of Time, Unfortunately, "Less Than Any Other" Manually Orientated Profession!

So, "Joe", "Backstreet Pub Wizzard", "Jack of All" Will Indeed "Cost You Less"! But Maybe, Won`t be there Next Year?

Rather than seeking a "Nationally Recognised" ever changing "Ownership" "Known Name"? Try Seeking Local Garages that Have Strived to be, At "The Top", Investing In Futures, and "BSI Kitemark" Recognition?

ps:- There`s more "Electronics" In Latest Vehicles, than Your "Telly"!

Regards, Wes.

was the price of £189 just for one rear shocker , or both?

the top mounts will have been done with the rear shocker replacement (different parts but need to be removed to change shocker & cause no extra labour if done at the same time).

can't comment on the brakes without knowing what needed to be done.

were both suspension arms replaced , or just one ?

even though only one shocker & one suspension arm failed on test it is always best to replace items such as these in pairs.

tracking would be necessary after replacing front suspension / steering parts.

give us a bit more info on exactly which parts were replaced & we might be able to help a bit more , especially with regards to the brakes .

Hi guys,

New to this forum, but have been worrying about whether I have recently been overcharged for MOT repairs and if anyone thinks this is about right as I don't have a clue about car mechanics.

I live in Bristol and drove past and AA recommended centre the other day and thought, that would be a good place to take my car for an MOT as they will provide sound advice and wouldn't stitch me up, however after coughing up for the MOT and repairs I have been worrying about whether I have been overcharged.

My car is a Ford Fiesta Finesse 1.3 (2001) and was in quite good condition I thought, had a service in October (07) and hadn't done many miles (50,000 approx) so I was a little bit shocked to here that my MOT and repairs would cost 450 quid!!!!

I had the following work done, so if anyone could give me any advice about this, this would help me understand the costs.  I have subsequently spoke with other mechanics and they seemed to think that this should have cost about 200?

Failures:

SHK ABSORB REAR (189.00)
    offside rear shock absorber leaking
NEARSIDE FRONT LOWER ARM BUSH WORN (81.20)
SERVICE BRAKES BELOW EFFICIENCY (40.00)

Amber: (didn't help the costs, but thought best to sort)

BOTH REAR TOP SHOCK MOUNTS WORN (72.40)
WHEEL ALIGN ONLY (30.95)
    front wheel alignment requires adjustment

Any advice would be apprecaited.  Looking back I should have maybe taken it to another mechanic but everything appears better in hind sight.

Thanks
