sorry to hear that..but you will be glad to now you can still drive" legally as far as mot regulations" your car with a loose battery..danger of fire frying yourself....or water instead of brake fluid....brake pedal hitting the floor and no brakes..killing yourself.but whowww emissions incorrect or number plates incorrectly spaced....throw him in the tower...hang him.. i can hear the cries of the PC brigade...i feel for you mate but it's vosas ball sadly if we don't play it their way they take the ball away next year get your car mot'd one calander month before mot expiry date if it fails you have 10 working days for repair and partial retest and you still have a current mot and on retest it gets pre-dated forward..so nobody loses out..the law can be an ass sometimes

The mot has changed in the UK, we are one of the few now who believe in clean air to breath, so we go all out singing and dancing doing a real great expensive job so places like China can continue to polute and people can wear face masks?
Its an environmental thingy as well now?

I am alright with our blue tooth, just forget to adjust the number of cylinders and then have to go back to the machine when speed is way out?

| our machine uses the magnetic rpm pick up , it works fine on most cars , it just gets a bit dodgy on some 5 or 6 cylinder engines.

Thank The Emission Manufacturers, for Introducing the Bluetooth Engine Rev device into testing, It has an amazing distance range, Also used on their DSM`s.
Test Standards Upheld and speed measurements recorded, even the oil temp recorded if necessary.
Laters, Wes.

One thing I have noticed with our DGA is that if you choose to subjectively assess the engine speed, not relying on a rev counter, if the engine speed is not close to the operating band, but not miles out, hard of earing, then depending upon how good the CAT actually is, the vehicle could fail.
Having then carried out the emissions test a second time but this time using the blue tooth rev device, the engine speed measured correctly, the vehicle then passed.
Some testers have said that they don't bother with the engine speed measurement, and use the rev counter or just subjectively assess the speed, but the testing guide does make specific point of informing testers that were the engine speed can be measured, it must be measured.
I have found with ours that there are not that many vehicles were the speed needs to be bypassed, and I have experienced vehicles which have been into test stations and failed the test, and then when tested using the speed measurement they have passed, previous test station print out shown no RPM measurement, and in my experience the time taken is actually less to conduct the test.

agree with that , we recently hads a nissan almera brought into our garage , the customer had it mot'd somewhere else & it failed the co at idle , we cleaned the throttle body out & emission tested it , it went straight through .
she took it back to the other garage for retest & it failed again .
she then brought it to us for test & it went straight through with a couple of advisories .
our machine was only calibrated the week before doing the test on her car , so ours should be right anyway.

I'm afraid in this politcally correct world that we are now forced to live in, emission testing is deemed just as important as your braking system.
The green wellie brigade have now ensured that many older cars that are mechanically sound, are forced off the road as the cost of emission repairs exceed the value of the car.
If I were you I'd get another reading done on the Audi ie when the engine is well warmed up, as readings can differ between MoT garages. Could save you a lot of money! A friendly tester may even just do an emissions test for a few quid, then depending on the result, you know exactly where you stand.

Car has failed mot because 2nd idle outside specified limits, whatever that means.
I know nothing about cars but thought the mot was brought in to make sure cars were still roadworthy after a number of years does the above make my car unroadworthy.
Audi did a test and quoted £589.87 to replace throttle body, two local garages have quoted £280.00 - £285.00 for the job.
My local garages can get the Audi part for £250.00 while Audi charge £350.00 plus £100.00 per hour for labour.
Guess who will get my business in future.
