No CO nowadays - at least if his CAT is working okay Kev
True, if its catted. But there is Sulphur Dioxide, and a lot of other stuff that will make you poorly. Carbondioxide is'nt good for you either.
Given the choice of " exhaust "or air, I'll take the latter every time! I get your point though.
I'm not going "David" on you!

Hi Gasinstaller,
Sorry to here about your dissatisfaction.
Your MOT station should have tested the emmisions and given you a printout.
I assume the car is petrol?
If this is the case it would probably have failed the test on the Lambda reading, A leaking exhaust causes the Lambda reading to go high (Bernoulis Law). Air from outside the exhaust is "Sucked in" This throws out the Oxygen reading.
If you had appealled, the MOT station would have been in trouble for not testing the Emms. However, it's too late now as you have had work carried out on the vehicle.
At least you now have an MOT and an exhaust that does'nt leak.
The price the garage quoted would be for a new exhaust. Many garages(mine Included) do not like welding exhausts, its not best practice, as they rot from the inside out. The customer usually returns after a week or so with his car complaing that his exhaust is leaking again. so keep your eye on it, as it may be near the end of its life, As will you and / or your passengers if the gases find their way into the cabin.

Have just had car back from MOT station, failed because slight blowing on exhaust, MOT chap says hes unable to test emmisions because slight blowing on the exhaust...therefor failure.... Surly they could do an emmision test if the exhaust as a pinhole leak....The tester told me that if he had tested the emmisions ,the reading would have gone off the scale...
what a load of rubbish..
I think some of these testers have been on the wacky backy..Quoted me £180 to do repair...my son put a little spot weld, job done.. MOT station were not very happy when i took the car back, intimating that the repair was not up to standard, I told them that if they intend to fail the MOT again, then could i have an appeal form,, their attitude changed almost instantly, and they issued the Mot... i would think that a lot of testing stations have a licence to print money by ripping the general public off... a lot of these stations need sorting out...They will have to be up early to catch me..
