Rob is bang on as usual.
I spoke to a VE today, if another vehicle that can't be tested on the RBT (say a 4WD) is presented then he says he can be tested regardless of whether it was booked in or not and after the 2 days.

i think you can only test cars that were already booked in by prior arrangement before the failure occured-maximum of 2 working days but i could be wrong.

The failed RBT would have to be reported to VOSA, and an equipement failure would then be logged.
They would then probably issue you with an order to continue testing using alternative means of brake tester. (Tapley/Bowmonk)
Once the RBT is repaired you would again have to contact VOSA, who would then complete the log and give you permission to resume using it.
A VTS does not have authority to use alternative equipement without going through this procedure.

| if the rbt was to fail can vts continue to test with a tapley meter until the rbt has been fixed or replaced ?
