ITEM 2 CITROEN 2CV CHASSIS CORROSION

Some of these vehicles may be suffering

from advanced chassis corrosion that is

not immediately obvious.

The signs to look for are one or more of

the following:

Lower steering column universal joint

fouls the floor pan, steering becomes

stiff.

The gap between the A post and the

wing panel/valence closes noticeably.

The chassis flange starts to ripple.

Lifting the carpet (if not secured)

reveals some distortion.

Should a 2CV exhibit any of the above

signs, testers should examine the

chassis with particular care

seem to recall an old sn mentioning floorpan corrosion on 2cv about 5yrs+10yrs back on old sn cleanse instructions, hasnt been superceded that i know of so you shud still have them.old motors tend to have more play in most suspension components than you expect compared to current cars.use a bit of judgement+youll be fine.

Thanks Rebel,

I think i shall reccomend some repairs are made at the rear end but should be OK for floor corrosion before presented.

Body on chassis cars it seems could be interpreted quite liberally when it comes to this one.

As an aside, what do we think of older cars with kingpins?  It seems some testers want to see all the play removed when it seems to me a little is a necessity for the unit to funtion without excess extra wear.

I saw an original ford sit up and beg pop the other day and the play it its kingpins was very excessive.

Hi MattS,

Your understanding is indeed basically correct.

But I find the 2CV, along with old Landrovers + Beetles is one of those 'difficult' ones!

It's impossible to judge without actually seeing it, and even then different testers will have differing views.

(my expierience and opinion only)

Hello Folks,

My first post here.  Looks like a very good forum, hope it grows as it desrves too.

Anyway, my question.

I have a customers vehicle here thats body on platform chassis construction.  The body basically sits on the top and is bolted to the chassis.  (its a citroen 2CV if anyones familiar with them)

My question is this, what exactly constitutes excess corrosion on the floors, inner rear wings on one of these?  My understanding is 'corroded to excess withing 30cm  of suspension or seatbelt mounting'  etc is a fail.

For instance, the floors are essentially sound, the sills are virtually perfect the rear C posts are ropey as heck as are the inner rear wings, the front floors are slightly holed.

How would this car fare if presented for test?
