Recently I was at my local garage having my vehicle tested and the owner who is also the tester got confused and happened to issue a pass certificate on a vehicle similar to mine which had failed the test with a lot of corrosion.
He got on to VOSA straight away to inform them of his error and was told that there was no way of cancelling the certificate, so in effect the owner could have taken the car away with a new MOT.
The local VOSA inspector told him to perform another test and issue a fail notice, as the last test is the one that is held on the computor.
Okay that solved the problem for my local garage. Who I have known for years and there is no question of any wrong doing. However I am a qualified motor engineer and have taught the subject at technical colleges for over 16 years and was myself an MOT tester for over twenty years.
I have always told people to take there vehicle in for it's annual MOT mabey 2 or 3 weeks before the old one expires to avoid panic stations if it fails and needs alot of work or money spending on it.
This being the case now if I were to take my vehicle in for test prior to the old one running out and it failed, the way I understand it is, that the remainder of my old test is no longer shown on the central computor.
Am I correct? is ther anyone out there who can clarify this for me?.
