You can legally drive it to a pre booked test and back.
You can also drive it to a repair garage for pre booked mot repairs and back.
Obviously some provable evidence of the above should be ensured.
However, there is no legal requirement for it to be your closest garage / mot station and there is no distance limitation, so some common sense has to prevail.
The car should be safe and roadworthy at all times though, so if it has any faults which would fail the mot it could still be technically illegal to drive it.
The MOT on my car's just expired, and it is currently still with a garage undertaking some pre-MOT rectification work. I was supposed to be getting the car back before the MOT expired, so driving home wouldn't have been an issue...
I understand that I can drive from my home to a pre-booked test with no MOT, but where do I stand in driving the car home from the garage it's currently at? I need to get it back home to sort a few bits myself ready for the test - will it have to be trailered?
Can anyone clarify exactly what the regulations are about driving to a pre-booked MOT too please? Are you only allowed to drive from the registered address on the V5C to the nearest suitable test station?
