The assistant is allowed to do anything you want, the most obvious thing is to press the brake pedal, how else do you check for load sensing valves and bulging flexi-hoses? Also on the likes of X5 etc the lock to lock check can't be done properly whilst on your own, you just can't see past the wheel. And to use the excuse that it is an ATL wont cut any ice with any potental disaplinary action that mat arise from say, an appeal, VOSA will say you should of used an assistant on that particular vehicle.
we currently use one-man testing on an ATL, but was curious to know if there could be any benefits from using an assistant - is there anyone out there who can tell me what an assistant would be allowed to do during the test that may increase the efficiency of the process?
