"wannabe" do yourself a favour.Apply to be a NT,first you need to pass the NTTA exam (this way you will see if what you have learned is good enough)..AS for starting your own TEST STATION..well..???????????..Walk before you run...

You don't need to work at a testing station to become a tester, but a testing station has to nominate you before you can start the training.

If you haven't the relevent mechanical qualifications, you will have to do a NTT exam first. This is a 60 question multiple choice answer exam, about mechanical general knowledge.

Once you pass the NTT, you can then apply for the mot training, this involves 3 days training at your nearest training centre. There are 2 exams at the end of the training.

After that you should practice the mot test at your nominated testing station, then when your ready, call your local vosa guy and he will watch you doing a test. If he's happy, that's it...you're a tester (NT).

If you want to run your own testing station, you will need to do an AE course also, I think it's just a 1 day course.

Right, first of all sorry if this is the wrong forum for this.

Basically  i want to train to be an mot tester, i have been in and out of garages for 10years and have potentially learnt almost all jobs on all levels, however i have no qualification to say so. I dont work at a garage that does mots but have in the past and have done mots beside an mot tester many years ago.

Now i am not saying i can test cars now as the regulations change all the time.

However, i want to start my own garage and more importantly i want to do mots.

Now if my understanding is right you can not do mots if you are not working at an mot testing garage, but the garage i want to start can not become a test station without a tester????? so it seems like i am chasing my tail :(

Any suggestions?? have any of you suffered the same issues starting your own company?

Thanks in advance for any help.
