Somebody please advise what they would do if they tested a vehicle on or after March 31st 1987 with up to eight passenger seats fitted, with the following defect.
You pull the webbing all way out of the inertia real mechanism to check the webbing for defects, but on this occasion you find the webbing has been retracted so tightly into the centre rear seat, that you can't even get your fingers between the webbing and the seat?
The regulation (5.1B.5b) says that ALL the slack cannot be removed from the belt, but in doubtful cases manual help may be required, so if no slack in the belt, do we all pass and advise what may or may not be a defect?
Inerestingly computerisation (5.1B.5b) only says a defective inertia real, nothing else, which when printed gives (5.1B.5b) as the manual?
Now is that misleading, or is that somebody being idle in VOSA admin?
Now to my second question with regards seatbelts?
You have a normal passenger carrying vehicle (car) with three seats in the rear, one seatbelt is found to be severally damaged to the webbing, like the dog eat it. You fail it and the customer asks for a price to fix it, somebody says you can remove it, and pass with only two seat belts fitted, then somebody says it should be replaced with a replacement belt as original, so who is right?
VOSA don't seem to be able to answer this one to date?
The additional information on page 06 advises of the requirements for the belts to be fitted, and it says that forward facing rear seats must have at least the type and number shown in the diagrammes.
