had a couple of them , some of them have a dipstick (as seen when we service them), but it's under a cover which i am not allowed to remove ;)

so it gets bypassed & the machine makes me wait 40 seconds.

we have the magnetic pulse pick up that goes to a bolt on the engine/gearbox , only problem with that is that it struggles on some 5 & 6 cylinder engines.

seeing as the majority of cars i test are diesel & the ones that are petrol are nearly all 4 cylinder it doesn't really cause any issues.

Judging by the way the latest 05 motors coming my way there won't be the facility to carry out these checks for example many cars now don't have dipsticks and when you connect to the battery to sense the alternator pulses it won't sync.

we used to have to bypass rpm measurement on most cars as the old emission tester had one of them clamps that go on the plug lead (how many cars have plug leads these days ?)

Hi Mate

The facility is there to bypass, but, they should be measured wherever possible.
