Just out of interest how long do you leave the vehicle on the system during a full re-test before logging it off?
Kev
at the moment we log off after 25 mins for a full mot.with the new regs in place we "re test" and log off after about 10mins (parcial vehicle left vts).
its better now because we were charging £25 for a retest when computerisation was first installed and now we only charge £10.with the old system it was free and so it didnt go down too well with customers when we started charging for retests.
we dont do repairs all we do is mot's.we can do upwards of 40 per day with 2 bays,so you can imagine how the new regs helped us out.

hes right,many stations just had a quick look round what theyd failed on previous and passed it.whole point of computer was to stop this and make them test properly.wonder if consumer organisations had anything to do with this?refer prior postings on this site for details.

New re-test rules make it easier thogh.
Our VOSA man visited last week and said;
"Its back to how it was before computerisation"
Then he said;
" Whoops did I say that out loud"

we offer half price retest within 7 days currently,when new regs come in wil make life harder.most cars that are taken away cause us the most hassle(dad/neighbour wotever having a bash at it)most failures that take that long to return tend to be the worst wrecks.essentially we will now be testing the worst cars for less money.prior to computerisation consumer groups queried prices,it was pointed out to them that with most garages offering free retests they were essentially already getting them for half price.most punters didnt realise this wasnt a requirement but had got used to the idea.when computer came in the public embarked on a very steep learning curve indeed!what i want to know is.most of these long term retests are going to essentially be full tests given that they will generally have failed on so much that youll have to look at most of it.if the mot fee is worked out on costs,how have they suddenly halved?

At least 25 minutes, so my vote was no. We do re-tests at the slightly reduced rate of £35, and will charge £25 when the new partial test comes in October

Since computerisation we've been thinking of stopping our free retests. it takes a lot of time to do a retest now and ties up the testers card etc. Does your VTS offer a free retest?
