How is the fuel crisis affecting your test stations throughput of vehicles, are you still testing the same amount of vehicles or less?

Hi Jake,
If My Wage increase is linked to the Test Fee, an increase of less than Three Quid over Two Years, and the cost of Living, Has nearly Doubled.
Where do you think I might just be, without a paddle?

I never believed that it was a good idea to inform the public with regards where the MOT Test Fee actually ended up, the job is very difficult to make any profit out of in the first place, so by telling them were the money goes just makes them think we are rip offs, why because they don't understand how much it costs to run a garage, we need to remember their experiences in life are different than ours?

£45 an hour......Any jobs vacancies at your gaff mate???
Like I said, which school did you go to? For £45 per hour I would hang on a bungee playing "Dixie"! Or "Duelling Banjo`s" If You prefer. LOL. !Last edited on Mon Mar 31st, 2008 12:16 am by Wesley

each test pass costs us about 2 quid.the fee is based on labour/equipment costs of about an hour and we keep whatever fee is charged.with test bays/wages etc costing what they do it generally isnt a paying spec in and of itself unless you have a very high thruput.most garages testing tend to rely on spinoff work to make it a viable proposition.if it was a profitable/easy earner the government wouldnt have farmed it out in the first place.to give you an idea of the problem many main agents no longer perform tests on financial grounds-why tie up 2 guys for an hour for 50quid when they can earn you £80+ each per hour.most of our local class7 and all of our local class 5 stations have now stopped on similar grounds with the result that the ministry test staions are having to test more minibuses+pikey crap etc than ever(didnt any of you guys wonder why class5 light came out?the ministry dont want em any more than we do!)if your looking for an unbiased test your best bet would probably be a station that doesnt perform repairs.mot test is zero rated for vat purposes and some garages do purely tests simply for ease of tax returns.most of these are obviously high thruput so you may have to queue/book early.good luck whatever you choose.

| The test station buy a "test slot" from vosa (we only pay for a pass not a fail) included in the fee is the cost of the paperwork. can't remember the exact cost of a slot but it is a very small part of the cost as the test station has to supply the premisis, staff, ramp, brake tester, gas tester, smoke tester, tools etc. The cost displayed is the MAXIMUM cost of a test and it's up to the discretion of the station to set it's own fee up to the maximum fee.
