| just got daylight mot on my wee bike, and had to tape up lamps, guy also said you have to have an odometer. Asked if could take off speedo because part of light assembly that i was going to remove, but don't think it's too clever loosing lights for sake of stop lamp, propably make up stop lamp for next mot, safer option. Not a daylight lamp runner, but can't blame them, car drivers are getting blinder by the year.

Dear Mr Always,
I stand corrected, thinking about it afterwards, the procedure for registering a vehicle, requires an MOT before it can be registered, so yes, no need for No plate.

Not quite sure now whether a number plate is actual required, some years ago I did used to test bikes, no requirement for a plate then.
Did you know that the only legal identification of a vehicle is the chassis number stamped into the vehicle frame, the number plate has no legal significance in identification.

I don't test bikes, but would imagine that you need road legal tyres and exhaust, Oh! and a registered number plate.
You dont need a speedo, lights or indicators.
A crosser can be a bit of a handfull in traffic though, rather you than me.

Book it in at a test station and check the results given?

Cant remember off hand
I think it will be OK if I remember rightly
You could always fit it after the MOT

Sorry to be a pain, but what if I choose to fit a stop lamp for saftey's sake does the bike still qualify for a daytime MOT ? or does the fitting of the stop lamp mean that the tester will be looking for the other lights to be fitted?
Thanks again

Hi.
You dont need a stop light mirrors or a reflector for a daytime mot.
Speedo is not part of the test.

Hi
Probably a bit of an old chestnut but I am trying to clarify the situation with a daytime certificate so that I dont waste anybodies time when going for an MOT.
I understand that all other aspects of the bike need to meet the current MOT regulations but I am concentrating on these aspects:
Do I need a rear brake light?
If I choose to fit only a rear brake light and no other lights am I still able to obtain a daytime certificate?
Do I need to have a functioning speedometer (the bike is 500cc)?
Does the bike need to be fitted with a rear reflector?
Are mirrors an MOT requirment?
Thanks in advance for your help
