Hi Jon_b.

I would speak again to your VE and explain the situation.

I'd made an assumption that he had some experience with bike maintenance.

Re Class I & II testing

The first step for your VTS is to apply to VOSA to install a Class I & II test bay.

Once the application has been approved in principle, your own VTS can then sponsor you to do the course, there's no need to be sponsored by/work at another VTS.

The agreement in principle will be granted by way of a vist to the site by VOSA to view the proposed test bay. As long as the plans meet the requirements of the 6th Edition Guide, you wil receive written confirmation. At that point you can then apply for the class I & II testers course.

Yeah we have the space to fit the lane, but the VE said that I needed to be sponsored by another testing station that tests class 1&2, thats where the problem lies ??  shouldnt VOSA just provide a training course for a situation like this?  What is my next step?

Hi, you should be able to go on a course no problem, I assume your VTS will be fitting a class 1 and 2 bay?

Hi, new to the forum.  I have been testing class 4 nearly two years now, with my dad who is also a tester.  My younger brother is just about to go on the course to start testing class 4 also.  Because of there being three class 4 testers I wanted to start testing motorcycles.  How do I go about getting on the courses?

One person I spoke to seemed to think that I would have to go and work at another testing station that tests the bikes and get them to sponsor me?  I cannot see why the system would be like that and I dont think another local bike tester will really want to sponsor me if they know Im going to start testing in the same area?  I know that I need a full motorcycle licence and all the equipment...but theres no point sorting that out until I know how to go about it?

Arent there any sort of training centres that run a course that trains and then sponsors?
