Its a class 3 because it has 3 wheels and it weighs less than 450kg (a three wheeled vehicle above 450kg is class 4)

If your usual mechanic/testing station is Class 3 authorised he can test the vehicle as presented. The V5 is not relevant in this case.

He should record the new details throught the 'Full Identity' functionality on the VTS device. This creates a new record of the vehicle AS SEEN AT THE TIME OF TEST.

Once you have a VT20 DVLA will update the details and issue a new V5 :)

I have recently converted a motorcycle into a three wheeler (trike). My normal mechanic refused to mot it as the trike does not match the original motorcycle V5 document (wheel plan, colour etc).

I went to the DVLA and they will not change the V5 document without a valid mot certificate !  They did confirm that it would not require a SVA or MSVA as I am retaining the original unmodified frame/chassis.

Is there a way to enter my trike into the mot computerised system and mot it ?   I have heard that it can be done by treating it as a grey import or by entering some of the detail boxes with not required or not found.

I would be greatful for any advice especially somebody who can test it as a class 3 within 50 miles of Derby.

Cheers

Ben
