Hey Kev
I dont want to get into some stupid internet spat over this thread, the point I'm tryng to make is that there was enough information in ridgie's post to determine that indicators are not required on his bike due to first registration/first use.
Whether or not it's a trail bike, dual purpose, or has high ground clearance etc is irrelevant, thats all I'm saying.
Let's put this one to bed.

Must be fitted if post '86 off the top of my head, But , If the bike is dual purpose ie. a trail bike, then indicators not needed regardless of the year.

So at the time it was not irrelevant !!!! I was answering the question, And correctly it seems!
Kev
4th post of the thread for the date of first use, 5th post for the answer, and stop editing your posts while I'm trying to type a reply.

If its an Trail bike (Dual Purpose) no indicators are required regardless of the year of manufacture. The manual says a dual purpose machine can be identified by the tyre fitment ie. trail tyres, or its ground clearence. ie. Its high.!!!
I dont have a copy of the manual here at home, but if I have misinterpreted it I will stand corrected.

Hi Kev
You are correct about the dual purpose - off road exemption, but .............
thats all a bit irrelevant - given that ridgie stated the date of registration/first use as pre- requirements for indicators !!!!!

As regards brake discs - the fail is for 'excessively worn' - but the tester should take into consideration whether the component has reached the point where 'repair, replacment or adjustment is necessary' a little hard to define without seeing the discs.

Here is why searching the forum doesnt help! (sorry for not giving more info previously) --
My bike is an imported kawasaki (manuf may 86) as stated on the sticker placed by kawa company)
It was imported in 1996, but given an age related plate (c-reg) As a c plate is 1 Aug 1985 - 31 July 86, does this mean the bike is regarded as being first used around this time - so exempt from having direction indicators?
Re: the brake disc thickness - I think "excessively worn" is just down to the testers discretion?
Thanks

This topic is covered (to death) else where use the search function.
By indicators do you mean pad thickness indicators, not part of the test.

Hi, new to this forum, and have read a few posts on indicators, but have this question:
I have read "if indicators are fitted" they must work, so am I correct in saying that if they have been removed, you dont need them?
Also how does a tester gauge a pass/fail on excessively worn brake discs? do they have a minimum thickness? also run out - is there a standard measurement?
thanks
