Kwik-Fit Tester issued fraudulent MOTs
A Kwik-Fit Tester issued certificates for 172 MOT Tests on behalf of the company, pocketing the £35 for each MOT himself.
He was found out when a woman complained that although her car had failed the MOT on nine failure items, she was provided with a pass certificate.
An internal investigation by Kwik-Fit discovered that their ‘floating MOT Tester’, Stephen Pennington, 44, had been issuing the certificates, but not entering that fact into the Kwik-Fit system, and then taking the money for himself.
At Bolton Crown Court he was found guilty of swindling Kwik-Fit out of £6,020.
Pennington received a suspended six month prison sentence, a three month curfew from 9pm to 6am, and 200 hours of unpaid community service.
The Recorder, Michael Murray told him, “you have come within a whisker of losing your liberty”.
