UK’s biggest road transport event
The organisers expect over 200 exhibitors and some 15,000 visitors for the three day event. “All the signs say this year’s will be a particularly good show,” says Robin Dickeson, event press officer. “While times are still tough, there are encouraging signals to say that the recession is easing. Now many firms want to make the most of the recovery opportunities that the two shows represent.”
Van, truck, trailer makers, bodybuilders and a huge range of supporting businesses for operators and workshops will show products and services that will help firms cope better with increasingly aggressive competition. “Many firms have delayed investments in new hardware or software and the two shows offer a great shop window,” continued Dickeson.
If you go to the show websites www.cvshow.com or www.workshopshow.co.uk – you’ll find all the latest news on exhibitors and their plans. “Importantly you’ll also find the links to the visitor registration system.” This will give you free entry to both events and your ticket will also get you a £2.00 discount on breakfast at many of the restaurants on the site. Once you’ve registered, the system will send you a confirmation, unique reference number and a bar-coded voucher that you can print and take with you to collect your ticket when you arrive. The doors open at 08:30 and close at 17:30 each day.
The two Shows attract a huge number of people from all areas of the industry. Fleet engineers, transport, fleet or logistics managers, owners, MDs and other senior people from every sector of the UK road transport business all come to the NEC. They aim to meet suppliers, find out what’s new within the industry, discuss deals and talk serious business.
Supporting sectors see the event as a basis for their marketing plans. For visitors, the Show puts everything in one place, under one roof and guarantees truly productive time away from the office environment. If you want a new van, truck, satellite tracking and navigation system or an new deal on maintenance or insurance, you’re more likely to find it at the CV Show than anywhere else. And Workshop is the place to find the latest and most efficient workshop equipment to help keep the wheels turning.
In simple terms, the people that keep the UK logistics machine running see the CV Show and Workshop as a vital part of their calendars. Anyone who is anyone in the business will be there. You should be too.
The Commercial Vehicle Show will be the UK’s biggest road transport event this year. It opens on Tuesday 12 April at the NEC near Birmingham and closes on Thursday 14 April. The Show, with its associated Workshop exhibition is also one of the biggest business-to-business events of its type. And it’s free.

Actia Muller Wheel Alignment for MOT Specialists
Founded in 1919, Actia Muller’s pedigree in garage equipment is built on more than 90 years experience in the design and manufacture of high quality and innovative workshop tools.
Having introduced their first wheel alignment service tools in 1953, tracking test equipment has been part of the Actia Muller range for nearly 60 years. This expertise translates to a complete range of wheel alignment solutions, including new products aimed at increasing the garage turnover.
With MOT bays, tyre-shops and other workshops needing to maximise every sales opportunity to underpin their MOT trade, Actia Muller have added to their well established range of ‘added benefit test’ equipment with a rapid laser wheel alignment system. Gauges connected wirelessly to a workshop PC enable a printed tracking report which can be quickly produced and presented to the customer. Using this ‘soft sell’ approach, supported by printed proof from the test equipment, the sale of adjustment work is both easier and more transparent.
After adjustment, a second printout can be presented to confirm the work carried out. The combination of speed and wireless reporting make this ideal for vehicle test stations who are interested in upselling extra works (and who wouldn’t be?), but do not want to interfere with the progress of the MOT. This product fills a void in the MOT market where previously no high speed laser measurement to PC solution existed.
While this equipment is perfect for rapid 2-wheel tracking tests, another next-generation Actia Muller system aims to provide high performance 4-wheel alignment while dramatically reducing the length required in the workshop for an alignment bay.
To be unveiled at March’s Motortec Automechanika show in Madrid, the new photo imaging wheel aligner features camera pick-ups which assess alignment side-on to the vehicle, unlike traditional pick-ups which must be mounted to the front of the vehicle on the ramp.
Such innovations are key in providing MOT stations and other workshops alike, with the tools to secure not only long-term profitability, but also customer satisfaction and customer retention.

The R-Tek range of interlocking floor tiles provides a competitive and versatile flooring system with multiple applications.
R-Tec’s R-Tile is loose-laid on the floor and its unique interlocking keys are easily locked into place. It is manufactured from hard-wearing chemical and oil-resistant PVC. The tiles can be laid quickly and with minimum disruption over hard surfaces. The tile is proven in use, having been fitted into many of Europe’s leading manufacturing and engineering companies.
R-Tile is especially suited to garage environment where floors are often uneven and damp. The installation of R-Tile removes the need to constantly keep painting floors and has a 25-year wear warranty.
R-Tile has been successfully installed in many garage environments, an example of one being Carmaster UK Ltd, located in Harrogate North Yorkshire, which is run by MD Ms Rebecca Pullen.
Carmaster UK Ltd had 140m2 of the R-Tile butterfly joint installed in their workshop in June of 2010.
Ms Pullen explained “The company wanted to improve the initial image of the MOT garage and wanted a floor that didn’t need replacing every 12 months”.
“We have now had the R-Tek R-Tiles installed for over six months and we will be installing them in the two other sites we have over the next couple of months,” enthused Ms Pullen.
“We are very happy with our decision to install this flooring material….”

‘Safety cover up!’
Really good ideas are quite often very simple ideas; the new Trademaster ‘Pit Coverup’ is simply that. Garage and workshop pits are very useful and offer excellent access to the underside of vehicles without the use of costly lifting equipment, especially Commercial Vehicles and Coaches etc. but they can provide a very dangerous environment for mechanics, who oblivious to the danger, could fall into them, mainly when there are no vehicles being worked on!
The unique and patented Trademaster retrofit ‘Pit Coverup’, is able to be stretched over the open pit whilst it’s not in use and the high visibility, strong polyester cover, enables the mechanic to walk across it without fear of falling into the pit, even accidentally.
The cover also has the added benefit of keeping the pit clean and free from rubbish when it’s not in use. As soon as the pit is needed again the cover is simply rolled to one end to reveal the pit, as simple as that!
The cover comes in two widths, 1.2m and 1.8m and five standard lengths, 10m, 12m, 15m, 18m and 22m and can be installed in around 30 minutes by the Trade Group team.

New logistic matchmaking website launched for motor dealers
A new website has launched which matches dealers and transport companies for the delivery of vehicles.
The website, www.wemovevehicles.co.uk was inspired by freight companies and hauliers who share information in order to fully utilise their loads.
The website helps match up dealers who want vehicles transporting to a location that another dealer or transport company was going near to anyway.
For your free trial log on to www.wemovevehicles.co.uk
Dealers can sign up to the website for free for the first three months and there’s a £20 a month subscription fee after that. Once registered dealers can choose whether to request a pick up or offer a driver a job and can then search for availability by date of journey, region, county etc. An email is then sent notifying of any available matches.
The website just matches dealers and transport companies, the negotiation on fees and delivery times are then organised between the two parties.
