Thriving in ‘testing’ times
With more than 70 percent of Class 3 and 4 vehicles passing their annual MOT Test, the opportunity for workshops to generate additional servicing income on the back of Test failures remains limited.
However, many forward-thinking workshops are addressing this challenge and supplementing their income by adding a professional four wheel alignment offering to their MOT service. What’s more, not only does the four wheel alignment service unlock a potentially highly-profitable income stream, it can help improve customer service in the process, as well as create a valuable, unique point of difference for the workshop and further improve road safety.
“Four wheel alignment is an extremely complementary service to MOT Testing,” comments Paul Beaurain, managing director of Pro-Align, the exclusive UK distributor for Hunter wheel servicing equipment. “The visual inspection of the tyres during the MOT may not identify a wheel alignment issue, especially if the car owner has recently changed the tyres in readiness for the Test. Much of the work needed in the pre-alignment inspection will be covered in the MOT so the additional time needed for the alignment check itself is minimal.”
With results showing that 9 out of 10 cars on the road suffer from some form of misalignment, it’s clear to see the additional servicing opportunity that can arise from a wheel alignment check.
“Not only can misalignment be a safety issue for drivers, but it will also lead to premature or uneven tyre wear,” continues Beaurain. “If a vehicle has just passed its MOT, there’s an expectation that these issues will be resolved.
By adding wheel alignment servicing, workshops can ensure these issues are dealt with and develop a reputation for the very best levels of customer service, while also growing their bottom line.”
